At this stage your toddler should be having 3 meals and 2-3 healthy snacks per day. Healthy snacks are an important part of your toddler’s diet and can build on their nutrient intake for the day. Improving eating habits now will improve their habits as children and adults. Make sure to have a supply of healthy, low sugar and low salt snacks around the house so as not to resort to processed convenience snacks.
Some healthy and easy snack ideas are:
- A boiled egg with wholemeal toast soldiers
- A small yogurt and some raisins
- Soft vegetable sticks with yogurt dip
- Chopped fruits such as banana or apple
- Cheese and seedless grapes
- Half a bagel and hummus
- A small wholemeal scone with butter
- Beans and wholemeal toast
- Unsalted rice cakes or plain biscuit
- Vegetable soup
- Mini pitta pocket with tinned tuna
- Hummus and wholegrain crackers
