Every Mum-to-be is different and will gain a different amount of weight during pregnancy, however, there are pregnancy weight gain guidelines to help give you an idea of how much weight you should put on during the 40 weeks of pregnancy.
And remember, a healthy weight gain supports a healthy pregnancy — trying to lose weight during pregnancy is not recommended and can put your baby at risk.
Normal weight woman:Total weight gain of 25/35 lbs (11.5-16kgs)
An overweight woman should gain a little less weight during her pregnancy — approx. 15-25lbs (7-11.5kgs).
By choosing a healthy diet with lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, lean meats and fish, wholegrains and low fat dairy products you are well on the way to a healthy pregnancy. And don’t forget to include regular gentle exercise as part of your routine too.
